(The excited kid in me wanted to kick off my very first Projections with King Felix. But I'm going to show restraint and make you wait. This is a product of a road trip, and a couple nights in a hotel in Medford Oregon. I really hope you enjoy!)
Jamie Moyer
How much does this guy have left in the tank?
He was able to rebound after a dismal 2004. This is a guy that in 2005, went undefeated at home. Moyer collected 10 wins and 63 strike outs in that span. The question remains.
Can he, at 40 repeat that feat?
It's possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath. He's going to be called on to pitch at the least 200 innings, just like he did last season. There are to bright spots in the Mariners '06 rotation, that's Moyer and of course King Felix. 2 out of 5, that scares me just a bit.
So here's what 2006 should shape up for the 40 year-old lefty. I'll include last years stats as well.
2005: 13-7/ 4.27 ERA /200 Innings/102 SO
2006: 15-8/ 4.10 ERA/ 215.1 Innings/95 SO
You probably noticed that I have him drop down 6 strike outs this year, he really relies on his off speed stuff and now needs to be more 'crafty' (sounds cliche` I know, but its true) than he's ever been. On the bright side, he's going to pick up a couple extra wins this season. Moyer's going to end up getting more ground ball outs this year, and thankfully he should have the defense behind him to do so. The infield looks solid, and for at least part of the out field but, that's for later. I've always enjoyed watching him pitch since he's been a Mariner and will do so again this year.
